From the PLoS One magazine, researchers used young mice – only three months – and reduced calorie intake by 40% before watching them for the rest of their lifecycle.

Researchers have found that limited calorie diet reduces the rate of shortening of telomeres compared to mice fed a normal diet, resulting in a 20% increase in life expectancy.

In particular, they found that when mice eat half of their normal calories, they survive either with an extended life of 32 to 45 months, or – even better – with a maximum life span of 40 to 53 months

Post and telomer – monkey study

Another study, published in the journal Nature, found that a calorie-restricted diet would result in similar results in rhesus monkeys

After an 11-year period, calorie-restricted monkeys had lower triglycerides and insulin levels compared to free-meal controls – they also showed better neuronal activity, higher energy levels and reduced body fat.

In 2009, 19 years after the start of the experiment, control animals began to die from age-related diseases, with a mortality rate of 37%

On the other hand, calamus-restricted monkeys had a mortality rate of 13% – for reference, rhesus monkeys live from 27 to 40 years.

Why Fasting Increases Telomeres (Stem Cells)

There is an enzyme called telomerase that can prolong telomeres that are abbreviated during DNA replication

Unfortunately, not every cell in your body expresses telomerase, and when we grow up, the cells that express telomerase express less than it.

Over time, our ability to replenish cells diminishes, our function decreases, and we die – however, we have some cellular rescuers called stem cells.

Stem cells are sensory cells of our body – when our cells cause damage, stem cells infuse and secrete proteins that initiate the recovery process.

When our cells die, they give birth to daughter cells that can replace the cells we lose through a process called differentiation

The big thing about stem cells is that they express telomerase, so they keep long body cells

In addition, cells that are born directly from stem cells are likely to have longer telomeres than cells that are not, based on the simple fact that they are a cell division from exposure to high levels of telomerase

However, we lose stem cells when we grow up, mainly through apoptosis and aging, but the good thing about stem cells is that they are not single-sex pony.

In addition to differentiation in other cell types, they can also duplicate through a process called self-renewal, creating more stem cells

These new stem cells also express telomerase, so their daughter cells will also have long telomeres
