The federal government for Environmental Protection and Conservation of the Earth (BUND) calls on the Free State to strengthen its action against killing insects. The Moto campaign is "Let's Hike!". Ecologists cite two main reasons for killing insects: climate change and intensive agriculture.
Felix Ekardt of BUND, Germany, says that the agricultural economy in the Free State has to adapt. It requires less or no use of pesticides. Even in the nature reserves of insects killers would still be used. The German Government must ensure that the competent authorities no longer approve the use of pesticides in protected areas.
According to the BUND survey among 421 Saxon municipalities, 177 cities and municipalities have already processed their land without pesticides.
