Enzyme Diet – What Can It Really Do?

Eat lots of sweet fruit – and lose weight. That's what the enzymatic diet promises. But why do enzymes help with weight loss? Allegedly, they stimulate fat burning and digestion and make the annoying hugs disappear. But is this really true? And how does enzymatic diet work anyway?

What are the enzymes?

Enzymes are required for various physical processes, such as metabolism. The body can do it alone, but there are also several foods that contain many enzymes. Especially tropical fruits such as pineapple contain many enzymes – and therefore are very high on the menu of enzymatic diet.

How does enzymatic diet work?

The food enzyme concept is simple: it stays there only menu dishes that have high enzyme content. That includes:

  • pineapple: It contains a bromelain enzyme that stimulates the cleavage of the protein in the intestine and helps the body absorb it. Allegedly, this enzyme also boosts fat burning – but this claim has not been proven.
  • kiwis: The contained enzyme Actinidain conveys heavily digestible proteins faster through the intestine. In addition, kiwi improves the level of seronotine hormone, which, among other things, stimulates deep sleep – which is important for metabolism.
  • mango: They contain amylases intended to improve the decomposition of carbohydrates. In addition, mango supposedly promotes metabolism and has a beneficial effect on digestion.
  • papaya: Papaya includes a papain enzyme that supports a body similar to bromelain in the cleavage of the protein. It can also help the immune system to fight inflammation.
  • banana: Bananas contain amylases and glucosidases, which, as mentioned, play a role, among other things, in degradation and digestion of carbohydrates. In addition, the study shows the link between these enzymes and good intestinal bacteria. Experts therefore suspect that enzymes can provide a balanced intestinal flora and thus at least indirectly help in weight loss.

The enzyme diet is therefore a mono-diet, which requires iron will. Also, as only 1,000 calories per day can be eaten – It's about one to two pounds of fruit, which can be distributed voluntarily throughout the day. Important: Keep your hands away from canned products! They are often also sugared or with other additives that could interfere with eating success. Instead, the menus should only be fresh products.

What are the Enzyme Difficulty Disadvantages?

There are many critical voices on the diet of enzymes. It has the following reasons:

  • There is no scientific evidence that fat burning has intensified
  • Taking calories in the long term is too low
  • It's mostly water, not fat
  • Great danger for yo-yo effect after eating
  • It's hard to keep up
  • One-sided diet prevents the absorption of sufficient nutrients
  • Excessive amounts of fructose and acid are consumed
  • Consumption of tropical fruit in the long run is relatively expensive

As with most mono-diets, enzyme nutrition is not recommended from a health standpoint. If you really want to lose a few pounds in the short term, of course you can try a few days.
