With menopause, many women have to deal with uncomfortable skin changes such as wrinkles and pigmentation. The handle to the cream jar is close – but what should be there?
This keeps the skin smooth and firm during menopause
Wrinkles, pigmentation marks, dryness: With aging care, many menopausal women deal with skin changes. But few know that estrogen levels are behind the problem, as explained by "Apotheken Umschau" (issue B8 / 2019).
If there is a hormone deficiency, fats containing estrogen can help. However, these hormone creams are available by prescription and are often used to treat dry vaginal mucosa. Non-prescription cosmetic products should not be included.
Instead, the cosmetic industry relies on so-called phytoestrogens, which are hormone-like plant-based substances and, for example, derived from soy. However, according to experts, the effectiveness of such products is difficult to prove, because the content of the active ingredients varies from plant extracts.
Those who want to do something good for their skin during menopause should use care products with water-binding agents such as hyaluronic acid. Vitamin A supplements can improve skin elasticity. A balanced diet, lots of exercise, less stress, and consistent UV protection contribute to smoother and firmer skin.
