The Confucius Institute in Stralsund opened in 2016 and specializes in providing knowledge in traditional Chinese medicine. With his help, the first traditional German drug made in Germany was sold at a local pharmacy across Europe.
The Confucius Institute in Stralsund celebrated its three year anniversary and the great success of the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) on 22 August. Even Chancellor Merkel sent a congratulatory note.
This is the first time that traditionally Chinese quality-tested medicines made in Germany are appearing on the German market. Stralsund Mayor Alexander Badrow read Merkel's congratulations at the ceremony.
Merkel said that since its inception, the Confucius Institute in Stralsund has offered a range of courses and cultural activities to residents of Stralsund and the surrounding area who are interested in Chinese culture and language, and has met many of the people who have become it. Merkel emphasized that Germany now has the first pharmacy in Europe to sell high quality traditional Chinese medicines. This reflects the good cooperation between Germany and China and is a perfect example of cooperation between universities, industry and cultural institutions. The Confucius Institute in Stralsund was founded by Stralsund University and Hefei University in Anhui Province on August 30, 2016. Since its inception, the Institute has done much to promote Chinese medicine and trade between German and Chinese small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). In addition, she has conducted a series of Chinese medicine courses for relevant institutions in the region, significantly promoting Chinese medicine in Germany.
