Tie-Dye is the latest Instagram beauty trend and brings us back to summer camp

Tie-Dye conquered the fashion world in 2019, so it was only a matter of time before she entered the beauty sector. And after seeing all these batik make-up looks on Instagram, we’re glad the trend has found its way to beauty.

The psychedelic imprint captured the (literally) fashion scene this year. You can buy Batik T-shirts, hoodies, leggings and even batik denim. All this is directly reminiscent of summer camp and overnights. We welcome the '90s revival in every aspect of our fashion choices and are now ready to do the same with our make-up. Or at least be amazed at how many people have recently posted to their Instagram feeds.

At the Fall 2019 fashion shows, we first saw evidence of a behind-the-scenes trend: at Colin Strada in New York, the models wore a mix of pastel eye shadows that were applied to create the batik effect far. And again we saw her at the Latte corner house, also in NYC, where makeup artist Isamaya Ffrench applied watercolor spray on the eye area.

Since then, make-up artists on Instagram have been creating their own versions of Batik Eyes.

The Tie-Dye effect is created by applying live eyeshadows or eyeliners and mixing one color (which requires a lot of mixing) with a gradient into the next to create a swirl of light shades. Some even put a trend on their lips and use the same technique with neon-pigmented liquid lipsticks.
