Hubert Hurkacz (ATP 35) is playing the best season of his life and just won the tournament on Saturday in Winston-Salem – but has not yet survived the first round of the US Open. On Monday, he was surprised to surprise Frenchman Jérémy Chardy (ATP 74).

Stan Wawrinka will not be able to handle Hurkacz as expected in the second round on Wednesday at 9pm, but with the allegedly weaker Chardy.

Chardy has been particularly successful in doubles this season, losing at the French Open only in the finals and taking the title at Rotterdam and Marseille. In the individual case, however, he failed, for example, in Hamburg or Bastad in the quarterfinals.

Confident Chardy

Before the Wawrink duel, 32-year-old Chardy shows confidence. "Stan is a tough opponent. But I won my first game and I feel good." He wanted to come out on the field with confidence.

Wawrinka lacked confidence in his first game against Jannik Sinner, as he himself said. "Sometimes I hesitate a bit in the game."

The game of the Swiss included highs and lows. He has to try to find more consistency against Chardy Wawrinka. The signs are good: he has won all 5 of his previous games against the French.
