With the announcement of the Nobel Prize in Medicine, Nobel Week begins on Monday. Shortly after 11.30am, the Nobel Summit of the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm announced this year its selection for the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. Prizes for physics, chemistry, literature and peace will follow by the end of the week, followed by the Nobel Prize in Economics next Monday.

As in the previous two years, Nobel Prizes are worth SEK 9 million per category (approximately EUR 830,000). The award winners will be officially honored on December 10, the anniversary of the death of price founder and inventor of dynamite Alfred Nobel, in Stockholm and Oslo. In addition to the cash prize, you will also receive the famous Nobel Medal and Nobel Prize.

The Nobel Prize in Medicine was awarded to immunologists James Allison from the US and Tasuku Honjo from Japan last year. It was an honor to develop special anti-cancer therapies.

As always, those who win prizes are completely unknown in advance. As in the physics and chemistry categories, the Medical Award often goes at the same time as several scientists who have researched together or in the same field. From the first of 109 entries to date, a total of 216 people, including only twelve women, have received the Nobel Prize in Medicine. She went 39 times for one, 33 times for two and 37 times for three winners. The prize can be awarded by up to three people at a time.
