Flu season kicks off again. It's time to get the flu vaccine, say Chemnitz health agencies. This year, all health insurance companies are taking on an expensive quadruple vaccine. This should prevent a strong flu epidemic like two years ago, Doctor Harald Uerlings told us. The health department has been vaccinated since Thursday on four different days of action, but the syringe is also available from every family doctor.
For people without a family doctor, the health department may offer limited vaccination time in the following days due to lack of staff:
- Thursday, October 10, 2019
- Thursday, November 7, 2019.
- Thursday, November 28, 2019
- Thursday, December 05, 2019
8 a.m. to 11 p.m., and 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
When is the best time to quit the flu?
Right now is the right time for a flu vaccine primarily with your family doctor.
There are still a few colds and acute upper respiratory infections that would prevent vaccination. And there is still plenty of time to build up vaccine protection (after about 14 days) until the typical cold period begins. An "illness wave" is not expected before the end of 2019 / early 2020. By the way, the vaccine, which must be refreshed annually, will usually last as early as the first half of 2020.
How long can they be vaccinated?
The vaccine will last throughout the season, ie in the spring. Vaccination is usually at a time that is still infection-free, on a case-by-case basis. Who can be vaccinated? Infants can be vaccinated against the flu at the age of 7 months. The health department recommends that this vaccination be carried out with a pediatrician.
Which group of people is specifically recommended for the vaccine?
Especially older people and people who come into contact with many others. (eg educators, teachers, nurses and nurses) should be vaccinated. In addition, women who became pregnant during the flu season from the second trimester of pregnancy, with additional health risks from the first trimester of pregnancy, and nursing home residents.
