Paderborn (WB). The wait has come to an end: This Friday, October 11, starts at 7pm at Ahorn Sportpart, the new season of the Bundesliga for squash. Paderborn Skquash Club welcomes a team from Sportwerk Hamburg.
The current German champion and record champion returns to the field with great confidence: three weeks ago, the Paderborns defended their European title and won it for the tenth time in Edinburgh, Scotland. Raphael Kandra also won in early September as the first German in the European Championships. “We are very much looking forward to the season opening at home and of course we look forward to the many viewers who support us,” says Kandra.
The duo took over the work of Norman Farthing
Friedrich van Rossum (formerly Scheel) took over as Team Leader along with PSC Executive Director Anna Wedegärtner of Norman Farthing and is destined for the position of former player and board member of the Bundesliga: »After the success of the European Cup, PSC confidently enters the new season and has clear goal – retraining for play-offs. The worst competitor from Hamburg so far has had to release some top players. As a result, teams like Bremen and Krefeld strengthened and bolstered their playoff ambitions. "
With the Paderborn second team not qualifying for the Northern Group, the PSC leaders decided to extend the Bundesliga squad to Cederic Lenz and Tobias Weggen, and in the season set up a Paderborn team, occasionally supplemented by foreign powers.
Kandra and Rösner in the knockout round of the US Open
PSC is expected to compete Friday night at Lightpower Centercourt, and will feature Raphael Kandra, Nicolas Müller, Lucas Wirths and Lennart Osthoff. Cederic Lenz is available as a replacement. Simon Rösner is still in Philadelphia for the US Open. There, they rejected Rösner and Kandra late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning (German time) for their first knockout match. Expected guests from Hamburg have nothing to do with the first Platinum event of the new PSA season. They have featured in the lineup of Lennard Hinrichs, Fynn Schuck, Julius Winkler and Bart Wijnhoven and are competing as outsiders in the title holder. This also applies to 1st SC Diepholz, who expects PSC on Sunday (2pm) for the second leg of this first day of double play.
