The proven model is available exclusively from Taconic Biosciences
RENSSELAER, N.Y., November 05, 2019, with the introduction of a new model of Alzheimer's disease, ARTE10 Mouse Model.
ARTE10 is a transgenic mouse model that expresses mutated human APP and PS1 genes and is only available from Taconic. This combination is manifested by the early onset of amyloid plaques, with a smaller cognitive deficit often associated with Alzheimer's disease. The plaques formed in the ARTE10 model are especially suitable for PET imaging, which makes the ARTE10 so valuable for translational research.
Taconic offers this and other models for Alzheimer's disease under a royalty-free license, making it readily available for commercial use, including contract research. Many other models of Alzheimer's are available under restrictive conditions for academic use only or require high royalties for commercial use. The ARTE10 is available in typical quantities.
"The ARTE10 mouse is a unique model that develops amyloid plaques as early as 3 months, which can significantly shorten the drug development timeframe. Many other Alzheimer's disease mouse models develop plaques from 9-12 months, which can prolong the start of critical studies," said Dr. Sc. Michael Seiler, Vice President of Commercial Products at Taconic. "Offering such a key model through a simple license with no signature agreement, no copyrights and no licenses or other proprietary rights of third parties underlines Taconic's commitment to strengthen research into drug research."
Alzheimer's is a research priority because of its great impact on society. According to the Alzheimer's Association, every third elderly person dies of Alzheimer's disease or other dementia).
