Olivier Véran takes revenge on Didier Raoult

New development in the series of hydroxychloroquine, at the center of controversy since the start of the coronavirus epidemic. This Friday, May 22, The Lancet, a British medical scientific journal, published a large study “alerting to the ineffectiveness and risks of certain treatments of # COVID-19”, including chloroquine. This treatment, promoted from the start by Professor Didier Raoult, would not have a positive effect against the virus, or even increase the possibility of death and cardiac arrhythmia.

In the aftermath, this Saturday, Olivier Véran, the Minister of Health, seized the High Council of Public Health to request a “review of the derogating rules of prescription” concerning the hydroxychloroquine, as he indicated on his Twitter account. Olivier Véran had always been very reluctant to deal with chloroquine, and had tackled Professor Raoult several times. Emmanuel Macron, for his part, had pushed for the treatment defended by Didier Raoult to be “tested”. “We have to move forward, show effectiveness and measure toxicity,” he explained two months ago. In the aftermath, the president had also paid a surprise visit to Didier Raoult in Marseille to discuss with the one who “fascinates” him around this drug used to treat malaria.

The use of chloroquine already restricted in France

The High Council for Public Health (HSCP) had published a favorable opinion on the use
